Newcastle ultimate guide to self storage. Image shows a Cinch Storage employee sitting at the desk smiling at customers.

Located on the River Tyne’s northern bank, opposite Gateshead on the south bank, Newcastle is the northernmost city in England. It has a large population of over 300,000 which means there are a lot of residents and businesses in need of storage.

Residents in the city or surrounding areas will need storage because much of Newcastle’s housing is a mix of Victorian terraces and new-build flats, both of which lack storage. There is also a large amount of student housing as Newcastle is home to both Newcastle University and Northumbria University. Whether you are moving for your studies or moving to the North East for a job, you will likely find yourself in need of storage.

Newcastle also has a thriving business community on both sides of the River Tyne. We will be able to help them find secure storage space for their stock, equipment and/or documents.

Our Newcastle facility is located at Unit 15 Tundry Business Centre, Tundry Way Chainbridge, Blaydon-on-Tyne NE21 5SJ, across the road from CareCo Newcastle. Our Newcastle facility serves Newcastle city centre, Gateshead, Blaydon, Denton, Wickham, Benwell, and the wider Tyneside area.

Within this guide, we will discuss unit sizing, costs, what to look out for, what to avoid, how to find us, the areas we serve and some FAQs.

Cinch Storage has a 5-star Google rating and 2000+ 5-star Trustpilot reviews across all of our facilities. We will provide you with excellent storage that you can trust.

What Size Storage Unit Do You Need?

One of the first questions you need to ask yourself is what size storage unit do you actually need. The below table will help you to see what you can fit in certain sized units:

  • 25 sq ft (small shed) – Studio flat contents, small office clearout, document storage
  • 50 sq ft (transit van) – 1-bed flat contents, small business inventory, tradesperson tools
  • 75 sq ft (large van) – 2-bed flat contents, e-commerce stock, equipment
  • 100 sq ft (single garage) – 3-bed house contents, growing business inventory
  • 150-500 sq ft (double garage to warehouse) – 4+ bed house, bulk business
  • storage, pallet storage
  • 500–1000+ sq ft (warehouse space) – Large-scale business storage, fulfilment operations, bulk inventory

How Much Does Self Storage Cost In Newcastle?

Storage in Newcastle and Tyneside is significantly cheaper than storage you would find in London or Southern England but the actual price of your storage will be dependent on a number of factors. These factors include:

  • The unit size you need
  • How long you need your unit for
  • The time of year
  • The access hours you need – standard vs extended
  • Whether you take our insurance for your unit

In order to get the best value, you should compare the price per sq ft and not just the total price. You should also factor in any hidden fees, such as admin charges or mandatory insurance.

At our Newcastle store, we offer the first 12 weeks at 50% off and, if you leave your unit earlier than expected, you will be refunded for any unused days. You will only pay for what you use. None of our competitors offer this.

Choosing A Secure Storage Facility In Newcastle

Secure storage Newcastle. Image shows a Cinch Storage employee holding a padlock infront of the logo.

Security should be a top priority when it comes to choosing a storage facility. Within this section, we will look at the security features you should check for and the access considerations, along with letting you know what you should avoid.

Security Checklist

  • 24/7 CCTV surveillance with recording retention
  • Individual unit alarms on every unit
  • Fire and smoke detection systems throughout
  • PIN code access control – customer-only entry, all access logged
  • Perimeter security and well-lit premises

At Cinch Storage, we have all of these security features. All of our units are fitted with an alarm and smoke and fire detectors. Our perimeters are well-lit and monitored by 24/7 CCTV surveillance which is around the entire Newcastle facility. We have pin-code access which will allow you secure access to your unit.

Access Considerations

Access is an important thing to consider when looking at storage facilities because you want to make sure you can access your unit when you need to. At our Newcastle facility, we have two types of access hours:

  • Standard opening hours when the Newcastle team is in store
  • Extended opening hours when you gain access with your pin-code

Our extended opening hours are available at the request of the customer and at the store’s discretion so you will need to chat with the Newcastle team. There may be a small charge for access to the extended opening hours.

We have drive-up access to some of our units and free trolleys available at our Newcastle store. This makes loading and uploading your unit much easier.

Contract Red Flags To Avoid

As well as there being things to be on the look out for, there are many red flags that you should avoid when looking at storage facilities. The red flags are:

  • Long minimum terms
  • No refund on early exit
  • Excessive admin fees
  • Mandatory insurance at inflated rates

At Cinch Storage Newcastle, we have no minimum stay terms, Our rental contracts are completely flexible meaning that you can change your unit at any time. You are also free to leave your unit before your rental period has ended. We just need a short period of notice (please speak to your Newcastle team for details) and you will be refunded for any unused days. You will only pay for what you use. This is completely unique to Cinch Storage and is not offered by any of our competitors.

We do not have any hidden or excessive admin fees and, although we do offer insurance, it is not mandatory.
