Find inspiration 

You can go old-school and buy a load of interior design magazines to look for inspiration or you can head online.

You could get your partner or, if it is a communal area, your family to do this too and then you could see what you are all thinking and see if you could combine ideas. Prep you walls 

This tip comes directly from Dulux, the gods of decorating, so we think it really needs to be taken seriously – prep your walls! 

This means giving them a wipe down with warm, soapy water to remove any dirt and fill in any cracks or holes with filler. This will make the actual decorating so much easier.

If you are painting in the same colour over a couple of days, do not waste your time washing the roller. Simply place it into an airtight plastic bag overnight.
