How To Pack A TV For Moving

How to pack a TV for moving is a question many of us need to know the answer to at some point in our lives. Here, we will guide you through how to pack your TV for moving so it stays damage-free and in working order.

Televisions are fragile so moving them can be a tense time, particularly when you are moving them from one home to another in the back of a van or moving lorry. To make sure your TV makes it to your new home in working order, you will want to pack it with care.

Within this article, we will guide you through how to pack a TV for moving so you are ready for a film night or to binge your favourite television show when you arrive in your new home.

Remove All The Wires

To begin, remove all wires from your television. This will include wires such as the power and satellite cables

Once all the wires are removed, use nylon or velcro ties to keep it neat and tidy and then make sure you label them all if you have a lot so you know what each one is for when you unpack. Sticky labels or a piece of masking tape work well. If you want to be super organised, you could also use a grip seal bag. Place the wire into the bag and label the bag.

Before removing any of the wires, you could also take a photograph of the back of your television so you know where everything goes.

When this is done, you can pack the wires in a labelled box. Wires tend to be robust so, as long as you put them in a clean and dry box, these don’t require much more attention.

Pack Up All The Remotes And TV Extras

Next you should move on to packing up all the extra television bits. This will include:

  • Remotes
  • Sky Box
  • DVD Players
  • Video Game Consoles
  • Video Game Controllers

To pack them all safely you should wrap them in bubble wrap. Keeping your television safe is important but so is keeping all the parts that help make it work and/or make it fun!

Clean The Television

This one probably comes as no surprise but, before packing your television in any way, you should give it a clean. You will want to clean the screen using a screen cleaner and a microfibre cloth. If you haven’t moved the television for a while and there is dust in hard to reach areas, such as the vents, compressed air will be a big help to remove this.

Wipe all the rest of the television with a microfibre cloth to remove any more dust that has gathered on it.

Protect The Television

Now you are ready to begin wrapping the television so it is protected during the move. You will want to wrap your television in a protective material such as bubble wrap. To secure the bubble wrap, you could use packing tape but make sure it doesn’t stick to the television or its screen.

Cardboard corner protectors placed on each corner on top of the bubble wrap will add an extra layer of protection. You can buy these online, in art shops or make them yourself

Utilise Protective Packaging

Once your television is nicely wrapped up, it is ready to go into some protective packaging. If you have the box it came in, this would be an excellent option but do not fret if that is long gone. You can buy boxes in store that will fit a television.

If you aren’t moving far, you could also just wrap it inside a duvet but this is at your own risk. It will not be as safe as being inside a box.

Consider Using A Professional Removal Team

If, after all our guidance, you still have some trepidation about packing and moving the television yourself, then there is no shame in calling in the professionals. They are professionals for a reason and they will make sure your television arrives at your new home safely.

Make sure you pick a professional removal team who will do a good job. Check reviews on Google and on Trustpilot to make sure that the company you are thinking of hiring does a good job.

Do You Need Self Storage?

If you are thinking about how to pack a tv for moving, chances are you are either moving house or doing some major renovations. With both of these things comes a great deal of stress. Using self storage will help to ease some of this stress.

Self storage will ease some of the stress because you will have a safe place in which to store your television and all of your belongings. You can have complete peace of mind that your belongings are safe so you can focus on your move or renovations.

If you are moving house, self storage will help because it will allow you to pack nice and early, meaning you can get your old home ready for its new owners without being surrounded by boxes. You will also be able to unpack at your own pace which will allow you to get your new home ready without worries about your belongings getting covered in paint or wallpaper paste.

How To Pack A TV For Moving

When packing a television for moving, you need to make sure that it is done correctly so the television remains safe and in working order whilst being moved. To begin with, you should remove all the wires, secure them neatly and then label them. Next you should wrap in bubble wrap all the extras, such as remotes, Sky boxes, video games consoles and controllers.

Next, you are ready to pack the television. Start by giving it a good clean and then wrap it in bubble wrap. You may also want to use protective cardboard corners. If you have its original box, place it into that but if you don’t, you can buy boxes online that will fit a television.

If you still have worries about doing it all yourself, it may be time to consider using a professional removals company.
