Growing your family: Storage units Mitcham and how they can help

Deciding to start or grow your family is an extremely exciting time. Depending on the size of your home, it will also be a time where you realise you need to make some room for the bundle of joy that is on its way. This is especially difficult if you live in a smaller, more expensive space in a city. You might be considering using storage units Mitcham.

Babies need a lot of items such as cots, Moses baskets, changing tables and toys. For such small humans, they take up a lot of living space.

Here is how you can make some much-needed room with some help from our storage units Mitcham.

Have a declutter and consider storage units Mitcham

For anyone needing to create space in their home, decluttering needs to be their first port of call.

To properly declutter, you need to put any items you no longer need/want into three piles: Throw Away, Give Away, Storage.

Having a pile for storage allows you to keep hold of items that you aren’t sure you want to get rid of completely. Or items that you know you want to keep, but don’t need immediate access to. Our storage units Mitcham will be a great place to store these items as we offer fully secure units in a variety of sizes.

Avoid bulky furniture…

When you begin looking for baby furniture, such as a cot, try to avoid bulky oversized items.

No matter how well you have decluttered, if you then buy bulky furniture you will find that you run out of space again very quickly.

You can mockup a simple floorplan and see what will sit well within the space. Or you can map it out on the actual floor using masking tape and create the layout with the pieces of furniture you think you want/need in there to see if it will work for the space.

… but look out for multi-purpose furniture

Look for the pushchair that can also become a car seat, a dresser that functions also as a changing station. These sorts of items will save you so much space with your nursery and within your home as a whole.

Nowadays there are also cots that will then turn into a first bed when required. This can help you to get the most life out of your furniture and save you from having to purchase multiple pieces as your child grows.

Any furniture with space underneath it is really useful, you can store pull out drawers filled with items underneath without taking up any more floor space.

Use the vertical space

Make sure that you use all your wall space, putting up plenty of shelves. This will give space to store items such as nappies, blankets, toys etc. whilst leaving the floor space clear and free of clutter.

Baskets are also great for storing toys, blankets, nappies anything you need to hand in a compact way.

Make the most of all the space (outside of your storage units Mitcham!)

Going vertical is not the only way to really utilise your space. Storage boxes stored under your baby’s cots would be great to keep toys. On top of wardrobes it is also great to utilise through the use of storage boxes.

Vacuum pack bags for clothing is also a great way to save space. By putting the clothes in you know you don’t need immediately and reducing the size down, this can save a lot of space and be stored on top of wardrobes or in space underneath furniture.

The most important part of making room for a new family member is to make it an enjoyable process for all the family.
