Simon Barter set up the Dunstable branch of the charity The 3 Pillars: Feeding The Homeless and our storage in Dunstable has been of help. Here, we will tell you more about The 3 Pillars and how we have helped.
The 3 Pillars: Feeding The Homeless is a Freemason charity which started in Huntingdonshire and Northamptonshire. In 2026, Simon Barter set up a Dunstable branch of this existing charity.
Every Monday evening, Simon and his fellow volunteers head over to the town square, set up a gazebo, tables and chairs and serve hot food, prepared in the Masonic Centre, to homeless people of Dunstable. After the food, they give out drinks and warm clothing – padded coats, socks, hats, gloves, pop-up tents and sleeping bags.
They also signpost people to places where they could receive more help and support, such as drug and alcohol dependency centres, the homeless department at the local council and the refuge for victims of domestic violence. Simon and all the volunteers offer them love and support, alongside a hot meal and some warm clothes.
How Cinch Storage Dunstable Has Helped
Simon had already been renting a storage unit at our Dunstable store, for his personal use.
“I’m a musician so I store all of my music gear in the unit. We moved from a house to a flat and it’s not as big so I use the storage unit in Dunstable.”
Having found our storage to be a big help to him and our Dunstable team to be helpful, Simon had the idea of approaching Cinch Storage Dunstable to help with the charity.
“I just thought about approaching Cinch Storage, who’ve always been good to me, and see if they’d be prepared to help to do something for the community. We are all volunteers and it’s for the local area. Aaron couldn’t have been nicer. He couldn’t have been more positive about it all”
Our Dunstable team were more than happy to help and we provide Simon and the charity with a unit in which they can store sleeping bags, tents, their gazebo, tables, chairs etc.
“We store our sleeping bags, tents, our gazebo, table, chairs. I don’t want to leave stuff in the van overnight because then it becomes a target.”
How You Can Help The 3 Pillars Dunstable
Simon and the charity have already received help from people in the local community, from the man who sold them the van they use to transport everything knocking £1,000 off the sale price to the local Wickes donating a kitchen for them to kit the van out, allowing them to have a microwave and water urns. Dunstable Town Council have allowed use of the town square and Central Bedford Council have provided free electricity.
But, as a charity, help is always needed. Financial support would be greatly appreciated, as would anyone who could supply good quality sleeping bags or help with the printing of leaflets and banners.
If you feel you could offer help, please head to their website to get in touch.
What’s Next For The 3 Pillars Dunstable?
Simon is looking to expand the charity into other places in the area, such as Leighton Buzzard, Luton, Biggleswade and Ampthill.
In the next 2 years, Simon hopes to have Dunstable, Leighton Buzzard and Luton sorted and the homeless people in these areas getting support they need.
