Wisbech is a beautiful market town in the Fenland district of Cambridgeshire. The town lies in the far north-east of Cambridgeshire, bordering Norfolk and only five miles south of Lincolnshire. Wisbech is in the Isle of Ely, which is a former administrative county,  and has been described as “The Capital of The Fens”.

1. Visit Peckover House 

Peckover House is a National Trust property located along the North Bring in Wisbech. It is an example of the fine Georgian architecture that is seen around Wisbech. 

The house was built in 1722 and later bought by Alfred Southwell. It was bought by Jonathan Peckover at the end of the 18th century. The Peckovers were a Quaker banking family and owners of the Peckover Bank. They presented the house to the National Trust in 1948. The house was given a grade II listed building status in 1985.

Peckover House and gardens are open to the public from Thursday to Monday. The house is open from 11am to 3pm, with the last entry at 2.30pm. The gardens are open 10.30am to 4pm, with the last entry being 3.30pm. 

Entrance to the garden is free and the house is free entry to National trust members. If you are not a member, it is £10.00 for adults, £5.00 for children aged 5-17 and children under 5 get free entry. 

2. Enjoy Wildlife At Fens Falconry

Fens Falcontry is an appointment only centre where you will have an unforgettable experience discovering the wonder of birds of prey.

Founded in 2013, by Mike Willis, Fens Falconry set out to create educational and engaging experiences for all ages. As it has developed over the years, it has a dedicated classroom space, weatherings and aviaries for our birds and habitats for native wildlife.

Fens Falconry every day of the week from 8.30am to 5.30pm but you must book an appointment. Head to their website to book and find pricing. 

3. Enjoy A Show At Angles Theatre

If you enjoy going to see a show, then Angles Theatre will be an excellent place for you to visit. 

The Angles Theatre is a historic Georgian playhouse in Wisbech. It is one of Britain’s oldest theatres and it is believed to have been established in 1790 as part of the Lincoln theatre circuit. It served as a central hub for regular performances until 1850. In 1978, it was reborn as The Angles, a vibrant theatre and arts venue.

4. Enjoy A Beer At Elgood’s Brewery And Gardens

If you like a beer or to have a walk around a beautiful garden, Elgood’s Brewery and Gardens should definitely be on your list of things to do in Wisbech

Established in 1795, and was one of the first classic Georgian Breweries to be built outside London. In 1878 it came under the control of the Elgood family, and so it remains today, with the fifth generation of the Elgood family now coming through to run the business. 

There are events at the brewery throughout the year and the gardens are free to visit every Thursday from mid-April 2025, opening at 12pm and closing at 9pm. 

5. Take In Some History At Wisbech And Fenland Museum 

If you love history, then the Wisbech And Fenland Museum is a great place for you to visit and should be on your list of things to do in Wisbech

The museum opened in 1847 and its collections were originally made up of natural sciences and local flora and fauna. Today, in addition to incomparable literary documents of international significance, the museum holds a substantial archive, including parish registers, local government records, manorial records, directories, photographs and maps.

The Wisbech and Fendland Museum is open Wednesday to Saturday, 10am to 4pm, with last admission being at 3.45pm. An annual pass is just £5.00. 

5 Things To Do In Wisbech 

There are so many things to do in Wisbech, no matter what you enjoy doing. You take in some history at Peckover House or at Wisbech And Fenland Museum.
