Within this article we are going to look at the top five reasons why people use St Ives storage.

1. Moving House

The SSA report found that 32% of people use St Ives storage for house move related reasons. There are many different reasons as to why people use self storage whilst moving house.

For some, self storage will allow them to get their new home ready before they move in all their belongings. There has also been an increase in people moving out of their old homes before having a new home to move into to avoid losing a sale. They move in with friends, family or into rented accommodation. This often means that they don’t have the space for all their belongings so they store it within self storage.

Due to the cost of living crisis, many people are downsizing. This means that they will have belongings or pieces of furniture that no longer fit in their new home. St Ives Storage will save you from having to be completely ruthless with your belongings, giving you time to work out what you are going to do with each item.

2. Life Events And Transitions

Life changing events or life transitions often lead people to use self storage. The SSA report found that some of the biggest reasons for beginning using self storage are a death in the family, a relationship ending or an international move. These are all stressful events which will create a great deal of change within your life. St Ives will give you a safe place to store your belongings whilst you sort out your move or whilst you deal with your grief.

Another big life event is having a baby. A new baby on the way will mean that you need to make space within your home. Using self storage means that you don’t need to completely part with these items.

3. Renovating Your Home

The SSA report found that 24% of people surveyed said they were using self storage whilst their home was being redacted or renovated.

Using self storage during home renovations will protect your belongings from the dust and debris and protect it from getting damaged.

4. To Create More Space In Your Home

29% of people surveyed by the SSA said that they use self storage to make more space in their homes. This could be for practical reasons such as you are having a new baby but, for many people, it is simply to create a more calm and peaceful home.

Clutter creates a great deal of problems within your life. It can hinder both your mental and physical health by causing you to feel stressed, anxious and the buildup of dust can lead to breathing problems such as asthma. Decluttering can have an extremely positive effect on your home and on your life. St Ives storage can help you to declutter by giving you a safe, secure place to store items that you aren’t sure about, items that you want to sell and items that you only need at certain times of year such as Christmas decoration.

5. Working From Home

The pandemic started us all off working from home and many people have continued to do so. The amount of people working from home has risen in 2024 from 8.9% to 12%. This is due to it helping many people to develop a better work/life balance as they no longer have a long commute to and from work.

It has however had some drawbacks for some people. Some people struggle to switch off from work, particularly if they don’t have a designated workspace. St Ives storage will allow you to clear out your spare room and turn it into your perfect workspace.
