The colder months are on their way and it is time to think about BBQ storage. Here, we will talk you through our top five tips for storing your BBQ.
As we enter into the colder months, the fun of having a BBQ in the garden has faded. We mean, of course, you can still have winter BBQs but we aren’t sure how many people would be RSVP-ing with a yes..
If you are ready to place your BBQ into storage, we have our five BBQ storage tips ready to help below.
1. Clean Your BBQ After Every Use
To ensure that your BBQ stays in top condition, you should clean it after every time you use it. How you go about cleaning your BBQ will depend on your cooking style and the materials used but, generally, soap and warm water work very well.
If you are storing your BBQ away for winter, you will need to give it a deep clean. First, you should use a wire grill brush to get rid of remaining food particles or, if you don’t have one of them, a screwed-up ball of aluminium foil makes a good substitute. A porcelain-coated BBQ racks will need a more gentle brush, as wire bristles will damage surfaces.
Remove parts if possible and, using warm soapy water and a cloth, clean the grill. For stubborn dirt use a specifically designed BBQ cleaner.
Then, you should leave them to thoroughly dry, before putting it all back together.
2. Cover Your BBQ
Once your BBQ is clean you should protect it with a BBQ cover. These are great for keeping it protected over the summer, from use to use, and whilst it is in winter storage.
You should opt for a durable, weatherproof option as these offer the best protection.
3. Find A Suitable Place To Store Your BBQ
Where you store your BBQ is really important. An indoor location would be your best option as it will keep your BBQ protected from the elements.
When you are storing it for a winter, a garage or shed would be a great option. If you don’t have anywhere indoors to store it at your home, self storage can come in handy but, if it is a propane BBQ, you will need to make sure its propane tank is empty.
You can leave it outside but you will need a heavy duty BBQ cover and you will need to make sure it is in a sheltered spot, like under a covered patio or awning. You can get away with this over the warmer month but we really advise getting it inside in autumn and winter.
4. Find A Home For Your BBQ Cooking Utensils
During both the summer and winter, you will need a place to store your BBQ cooking utensils. BBQ sets can be purchased with a protective storage case. This can then be stored underneath the BBQ fire bowl, so everything is protected under the cover.
In the winter, they can be stored inside alongside your BBQ.
5. Store Your Propane Safely
If you do have a propane BBQ, you will also need to store the propane safely, throughout the year.
These should not be stored indoors. If your propane tank were to leak, a buildup of gas in any enclosed space could be extremely dangerous.
Propane tanks can withstand cold weather so you can leave the tank outside, upright, on a flat surface and in a sheltered area.
Why BBQ Storage Is Important
BBQ storage is really important, particularly in winter because, if left exposed to harsh winter conditions, your BBQ could be damaged by rust, wear and a buildup of dirt that can shorten its lifespan.
Proper BBQ storage not only protects your grill but also saves you the hassle of costly repairs come spring. With a few simple steps, you can keep your BBQ in top shape and ready to fire up when spring rolls back around.
5 BBQ Storage Tips
When it comes to BBQ storage, it is really very simple. Just make sure it is clean, make sure it is covered and make sure it is stored in the right type of place, indoors being the best option, if possible.
