When it comes to self storage a great way to make your life easier is to make sure that your unit is organised. Packing Hacks: Make an inventory

It is important before you begin looking at your self storage options that you know exactly what you need to store within your unit.

Choose the right unit

Once you have your inventory you will be able to gauge what size unit you need for all of your belongings.

If you are using it for your business, make sure to take into account the extra space that you will need to navigate around and work within your unit.

Choose the right boxes

Choosing the right boxes is key to making sure your items are protected but also so you can stack them in an organised way. You need to make sure to use high quality boxes. If you can, aim for a multi-walled box as these are high-quality and strong.

Use protective packing material

Along with choosing the right boxes, make sure to use protective packing material such as bubble wrap or loose fill.

Pack your boxes the right way

It is important to make sure that heavier items are on the bottom and lighter items go on top but it is also important to make sure that you don’t over-pack your boxes. This could not only lead to damaging the content but it could lead to you hurting yourself when you lift the box.

Label all your boxes

Label all your boxes as soon as you have finished packing each one. This will be a massive time saver when it comes to needing any of the items within the boxes.

Also, make sure to label any boxes with delicate items as ‘FRAGILE’. This will make it easy to see where they need to go when it comes to stacking the boxes.

More packing hacks: Stack correctly

As with the packing of the boxes, the heavier boxes need to go on the bottom and the lighter boxes on top. For anything you need to have easy and regular access to, make sure that it is in a spot within easy reach.

Add shelving or racking

If you are running a small business and using your unit to store stock, shelving and/or racking would definitely be a great way to utilise your unit space and save you time.

Disassemble what you can

If you are storing furniture then it would be a good idea to disassemble any pieces which you can as this will save you a lot of space.

Make sure to keep all the screws and fixings in a safe place ready for when you want to reassemble.

Ultimate packing hacks: Take your time

It is important to take your time when moving any kind of belongings into a storage unit. Make sure to take breaks and if you need help, ask for it. This can be from family, friends or from the team members at the self storage facility. They will be happy to help you.
