10 Smart Toy Storage Ideas

Having children is a joy but with children comes toys. Sometimes a lot of toys and they need a place to be stored. Here, we will look at our top ten toy storage ideas.

We all want our kids to have fun. But, we all also want to live in homes that feel more like homes and less like an explosion happened in a toy store. This is why toy storage is so important because not only will it keep your home more tidy but it will also help your child to learn how to take care of their toys and how to keep them organised and tidy.

Within this article, we will look at our top ten toy storage ideas.

1. Use Storage That Your Kids Can Use Themselves

If your children are old enough, one of the best ways to keep everything tidy and organised is to use toy storage that your children can use themselves.

Use low, open storage units like cube shelving or benches with baskets underneath so little ones can easily see and access their things. Your children will develop the habit of being able to  find what they need themselves and then put it back when they have finished playing.

2. Rotate Toys

Birthdays and Christmas every year can mean that your children end up with a lot of toys. This can be overwhelming for them and it will lead to a need for a lot of storage.

A great way to prevent this overwhelm is to rotate toys. Every few weeks rotate their toys so they get something new to play with. This will stop them from getting overwhelmed and stop them getting bored of the same toys.

3. Use Vertical Space

If you don’t have a lot of floor or even if you do, do not forget to utilise the vertical space. You can add shelves, hanging organisers and vertical tower storage and these will give you storage whilst making the most of the space you have.

4. Use All The Space

Whilst we are talking about using the vertical space, a great toy storage idea is to make sure you use all the space in your child’s room or playroom. Use the space on tops of cupboards and under beds.

5. Find Furniture With Storage

There is a lot of children’s furniture available that comes with hidden storage. This could be a bench with storage built in or simply a play table that has some drawers.

6. Use Clear Plastic Boxes

One of the best toy storage ideas is the clear plastic box. You can fit a lot into them and then they can be placed under beds, within cupboards or on top of cupboards.

Make sure to label all the boxes with what goes within them as this will help you and your child to stay organised. If your child can’t read yet, picture labels are a great idea.

7. Over-The-Door Storage

Another spot that can sometimes be forgotten is over the door. Over-the-door storage can be great for toys like dolls, action figures and craft supplies.

8. Hanging Nets For Teddies

Storing teddies and other soft toys in a hanging net is a great storage solution. It will keep them off the floor and will help to keep them all organised. Plus, they can look really nice within your child’s room.

9. Utilise Jars For Small Pieces

If your child enjoys playing with Lego or making things with beads, clear jars are a great place to store these types of small items that could easily get lost or make a great deal of mess.

And they don’t need to cost you anything. If you have old food jars, you can just give them a good wash, peel off the label and then you have a nice storage container.

10. Declutter Toys Regularly

As your child grows up, they will outgrow many of their toys. Sometimes this happens quicker than you expected so it is a really good idea to declutter toys regularly.

This will stop their toys from building up and you will be able to pass them on to children who will get enjoyment out of them.

Of course, there will be some toys that you want to keep, such as your child’s first teddy, but you could create a special memory box in which you can keep these select few special toys.
