Moving day is a highly stressful, hectic day. You need to plan every minute of the day to try and make things go as smoothly as possible and something can still go wrong.

One thing that you need to plan is your essentials box. Having an essentials box will make your moving day and the first day in your new home that much nicer.

Within this article, we will guide you through what you should pack into your moving house essentials box.

Important Documents

Some of the most important things you should be packing into your essentials box are important documents. These are the types of items that you do not want to misplace or need during your move. They will include:

  • Passport
  • Medical records and prescriptions, if applicable
  • Financial documents
  • Removal firm documents that confirm booking

  • Shampoo, body wash and hand soap
  • Towels
  • Skincare
  • Sanitary products
  • Deodrant
  • Hairbrush
  • Toilet paper

Electronics

Moving day will be hectic so you will unlikely be watching much tv, but some electronics will be essential for making sure the day runs as smoothly as possible. These include:

Clothing

Having the right clothing for your first night and second day in your new home is another way that you can be more comfortable.

  • Underwear and socks
  • Change of clothes
  • Pyjamas
  • Slippers
  • A jacket or coat depending on the time of year you are moving

Bedding

You will want to get a good nights sleep after the stress and full on nature of moving day. To achieve this, you need to remember to pack bedding in your essentials box.

  • Duvet and duvet cover
  • Sheets
  • Pillows and pillowcases
  • Air mattress or sleeping bag, if your bed is not set up yet by the time you go to bed.

Kitchenware

You will want to make sure that you pack some kitchenware in your essentials box so you refuel and have plenty to drink throughout the day.

  • Kettle
  • Cups
  • Water bottle
  • Plates and cutlery
  • Washing up liquid and sponge
  • Bin bags
  • Snacks and drinks – crisps, biscuits, tea bags, coffee etc.

  • All-purpose cleaner
  • Cleaning cloths
  • Rubber gloves
  • Broom and dustpan
  • Mop
  • Bin bags

  • Allan keys
  • Hammer
  • Drill
  • Tape Measure

Baby, Children And Pet Supplies

If you are moving with young children and/or pets and you can’t find anyone to look after them whilst you are moving, you will need to remember to pack some essentials for them too.

  • Nappies and baby wipes
  • Baby food
  • Bottles
  • Favourite toys

  • Pet bed and toys

Miscellaneous Items

There are some items that are good to have because they will help you to stay organised.

Moving Day Essentials: What to Pack in Your Essentials Box

As you can probably see, your moving house essentials box is actually not just one box. There will be quite a few that should be packed and kept to one side so you can unpack them as soon as you arrive at your new home.

Every adult person or older child will need their own essentials boxes for the items like their toiletries, bedding clothes etc.  so make sure they also read this list so they are ready to pack theirs.
