Autumn is arriving soon and just like having a spring clean in the spring, we need to get our homes ready for Autumn.

Within this article, we will look at how to get your home autumn ready.

Maintenance Tips

Let us start with one of the most important parts of getting your home ready for Autumn – maintenance. Within this section, we will offer some of our top tips for getting your home autumn ready from a maintenance standpoint.

Get Your Boiler Checked

Gas and oil boilers should be serviced once a year by a qualified heating engineer. As autumn draws closer and the days get colder, it is a really good idea to get it checked. You do not want to be without a working boiler on a cold Autumn morning!

Clean Your Gutters

With the arrival of Autumn comes falling leaves. This along with the remnants of summer storms means that  autumn is an important time to inspect and clean your gutters.

You should carefully set up a ladder, secure your bucket and scoop out all the debris.

Test Smoke Detectors

It is actually important that you check your smoke and carbon monoxide detector  regularly. Once a month is a good idea as it will ensure that the alarm is operating properly.

To do this, simply press the ‘test’ button on your alarm. After a few seconds, it will make a loud siren or alert. If no sound is made, then you will need to replace the batteries.

Check Your Roof And Loft

It is a good idea, as autumn arrives, to check your roof and loft. Doing this in autumn is a good idea because it is before the real cold temperatures set in which could do a lot more damage.

It is a good idea to check your roof and loft because you may be able to see issues clearer by checking both. You can do this yourself with a trusty ladder but do be careful.

Draught Proof Your Home

Draught proofing is really important in the colder months and it is really easy. You just need to fit draught excluders around your windows and internal and external doors. This will prevent air from flowing around the edges of your frame and improve the comfort of your home.

Bleed Your Radiators

It is a good idea to bleed your radiators once a year, even if they are working properly. You should always bleed them when the heating is switched off and the system has cooled down.

Cleaning Tips

Now we have covered all the maintenance you should do, we will now share with you our cleaning tips for getting your home autumn ready.

Have A Declutter

Autumn is a good time to declutter. As you put away all your spring/summer clothes and items, you can go through them and decide what you really want to keep. Anything you do want to keep can be stored within your home or within self storage

Have A Deep Clean

We all know about spring cleaning but autumn is also a really good time to have a thorough, deep clean

Give the windows a good clean and clean your blinds or curtains. Wipe down the skirting boards, and dust commonly forgotten areas like lampshades and the top of cupboards and shelves. Start in one room and do one room at a time so you don’t get overwhelmed.

Once you get to the kitchen, don’t forget to give your oven a deep clean and clean the fridge, too.

Clean The Fireplace

As part of your deep clean, you should, if you have one, clean the fireplace and get the chimney swept.

You will be using it in the autumn and winter so you need to know that it is ready for action for all your cosy evenings sitting by it.

Decor Tips

Now for the fun bit – the decor! Within this section, we will offer our tips on how to get your autumn decor just right.

Find The Perfect Autumn Scent

Finding candles and diffusers with lovely autumnal scents is a great way to get your home autumn ready. You can find specific autumn scents like pumpkin spice and warm cinnamon but earthy scents, like sandalwood, or comforting scents, like vanilla, will also create a wonderful autumnal atmosphere.

Incorporate Autumn Colours

To get your home autumn ready, it is a good idea to incorporate autumn colours, like yellows, browns, reds and oranges. You do not have to break the bank to do this. All you need is to buy some cushions and blankets and enjoy the rich tones that make your home more cosy and, more importantly, autumn ready.

Add Seasonal Decoration

Finally, a really great and fun way to get your home autumn ready is to add seasonal decorations. Pumpkin ornaments, autumnal wreaths, pine cones, acorns etc. will all add a real autumnal feel to your home. And shops will be full of autumn decorations from August onwards so you will have plenty to choose from.

Getting Your Home Autumn-Ready: Cleaning, Decor & Maintenance Tips

Getting ready for autumn will mean doing some maintenance to your house, like getting your boiler checked and cleaning your gutters. You will also want to give your home a deep clean and it is a good idea to have a declutter. Once that is all done, you are on to the fun part – adding autumnal decor. This can be in the form of autumnal scents, colours or decorations.
