Buy The Proper Packing Materials

To begin, you will want to make sure that you buy the right packing materials. For plates, this will include:

• High-quality boxes
• Bubble wrap
• Packing Paper
• Tape and Tape Gun
• Marker Pen

When it comes to fragile items, such as plates, you do not want to scrimp on your packing materials. These will be the difference between your plates being safe and your plates being broken. 

Prepare The Boxes

Next, you will want to prepare the boxes by reinforcing the bottoms with packing tape. You will want to add a couple layers of tape and then test it by pushing on the bottom with your hand. 

Once this is done, you need to begin scrunching up some of your packing paper in balls. Put these balls into the bottom of your boxes. These will line your boxes and give better shock absorption.  

Wrap Your Plates

Once your boxes are ready, you will want to begin wrapping your plates.

In order to wrap them properly, you will want to lay out the packing paper on a table. Place the plate in the middle of the paper and fold over one corner until the plate is covered. Take the next dish and place it on top of the first plate and wrap the remaining three corners over the second dish. Secure the paper with packing tape. 

Continue this process until all your plates are wrapped. 

Pack Your Plates Properly

Now, you need to place your wrapped plates into the boxes properly. You will want to place them on their side. Placing them flat could easily lead to your plates being broken. Plates sitting on their sides can sustain more pressure than those packed flat. Fill the box until they are tightly packed together. 

Add Extra Padding

If there are any gaps within your boxes, you will want to fill these with extra padding. Bubble wrap or packing peanuts will be great for this. Once the whole box is padded, you can tape it up with several layers of tape. Label the box ‘FRAGILE’. 

Move Them Carefully 

Now, you are ready to get them in your removal van. You will want to make sure to move them carefully and slowly. You will want to place them on the floor because, as they are heavier, they will not move around.
